“It’s like déjà vu all over again”

(Hopkinsville, KY) – The Hoptown Hoppers are excited to announce Gary Vaught as their new Head Coach. Coach Vaught comes to the Hoppers with an NCAA coaching record of 986-701-3 and over 1,400 total wins since starting his coaching career in the 1970’s.

Many of you will remember that Coach Vaught was originally announced as the Hoptown Hopper Head Coach in August of 2019, after finishing a distinguished coaching career at the University of Indianapolis. Plans moved ahead for the 2020 season that eventually became a COVID-19 casualty for the entire Ohio Valley League. Coach Vaught served as interim Head Coach at Lake Erie College for the COVID shortened 2020 season and returned as Head Coach in 2021 with the interim ‘tag’ removed. He left the Lake Erie program at the end of the 2021 season, paving the way for his potential “return” to Hopkinsville.

“We are excited to see what Coach Vaught can teach the entire Hopper organization about baseball. His experience is priceless. Please help us welcome Coach Vaught and his wife Ann back to the Hopper family,” stated Ted Jatczak, Hoptown Hopper General Manager. “We are VERY fortunate that Coach Vaught was interested in taking on the challenge of summer collegiate wood bat baseball!”

Coach Vaught commented: “The Hoptown Hoppers are a very classy program! I am impressed by how committed the fans are and how the community supports the team! I am extremely honored to have the opportunity to coach and be a part of the Hoptown Hoppers! I kept up with the team and the entire OVL during the 2021 summer season and I look forward to the challenge and the competition for the coming season. Let’s Go Hoppers!”

The Hoptown Hoppers are a summer collegiate wood bat baseball team comprised of players from colleges and universities across the country. The Hoptown Hoppers are a member of the ten team Ohio Valley League, and we anticipate opening our tenth season in the OVL on Thursday, June 2, 2022, now only 276 days away.
